The HURD

The GNU Hurd is the GNU project's replacement for the Unix kernel. The Hurd is a collection of servers that run on the Mach microkernel to implement file systems, network protocols, file access control, and other features that are implemented by the Unix kernel or similar kernels (such as Linux).

Currently, the Hurd runs on IA32 machines. The Hurd should, and probably will, be ported to other hardware architectures or other microkernels in the future.

Dans les prochains mois, je vais essayer d'en installer un sur une machine virtuelle en utilisant VmWare... J'ai bien essayé les CDs fournis par Debian, mais il semble qu'il y ait un problème avec eux (ou bien je m'y prends vraiment comme un pied) en fait je n'arrive pas à trouver le micro kernel... Donc je vais d'abord créer une machine virtuelle avec une vrai Debian-Linux, puis j'utiliserai l'utilitaire crosshurd pour créer la machine virtuelle avec le hurd. J'ai vu des screenshot de personnes capable de faire tourner e17 dessus... La suite bientôt ;-)
